Easy Windows Vista Annual Cleaning Tips

It’s the last day in the year, it’s time to gather around with your old friends and sing auld lang syne. But remember that your faithful old friend who always be there with you is lonely in your office. Let’s give him some cleanings as New Year present.:

  1. Look all important files and archive them as necessary. This is the biggest annual cleaning step. You have to review all files and put them into proper subfolders. But if you have done the monthly archiving tasks, you can just give these archived files a glance and skip this step.
  2. Check your bookmarks in your browsers. During the year, you are likely visited many sites and bookmarked them. Delete unneeded bookmarks, but if don’t want to delete them put them into a special folders. Good bookmarking management is great for your productivity.
  3. Check updates for your hardware. Ask your IT staff the brand and type of your hardware components, then visit the manufacturer site. You can use Google to find the check the latest drivers, you can simply search “7200GS driver download”, if your graphic card type is a 7200GS.
  4. Check your security system. There evil people out there who want to break into your important files and find a new way to do that. You need to stop them. Just give a good review of your security measures, perhaps it a good time to change your passwords, make sure it is very easy to remember but unexpected for anyone, even your wife. (No! don’t use the name of your ex as password)
  5. Consider hardware upgrades. Perhaps you just upgraded the OS from Windows XP to Windows Vista some time this year. If you notice some slower productivity, hardware upgrade is a great solution. If you have extra budget just upgrade with the faster processor that still match with you motherboard. But as always, the cheapest upgrade is just to add more RAM, you only need to spend about $15 to add another 1 Gb of DDR2.
