Looking at the growth potential of your company in the long term and seeking to recruit top ranking talent to develop a productive work force is a challenge to most. In order to maintain a high profile public image and be labelled as an employer of preference, recruitment of the brightest and smartest of today’s youth is a necessary strategy.
Vitalizing the business and complementing your work force, young employees are also much savvier to current peer trends. This gives the employer the inside track information on how to market commodities or services to the age group between 18 and 28 who those that have a disposable income.
Additionally young employees bring an optimism and idealism to their work. They believe they have a mission to make their world and their environment a better place, and are out to make the difference. This kind of attitude genders better morale in the workplace and also a business philosophy that is built on such values.
These youth who are due to enter the job market shortly have been named ‘the millennial’, who regardless of terrorism and trauma, war and environmental decay, bring to your organization a zest and enthusiasm together with a mission to better the world, which sets all of them apart from preceding generations.
These brightest brains of the nation are not leaving their colleges with the particular goal of only making money. So the corporate employer would be wise to rethink what kind of packages they would offer to such young employees.
Don’t make your offer based on money making possibilities or prestige of your company name alone. A young job seeker would look beyond the name board at the true picture of the company.
The millennial will want to implement modern technology based on their better understanding of the internet in order to achieve goals. They should be allowed to do this so as to position your company in contact with the modern marketplace.
Responsive and accessible upper management which is open to change is a wise ethic to develop as millennial is often seeking a creative and innovative environment with a strong corporate culture.
Young employees feel strongly and would expect the high minded statements posted on the notice board will be lived up to as their idealism is satisfied by the existence of solid corporate values.
Diversity being a part of the values, and a support of ‘going green’ are aspects that will appeal to a millennial who will take note of the mix of race and culture in the employees as well as the evidence of recycling activities around the office.
Even when recruiting for a specific field, be open to hiring from a variety of disciplines, since young employees can be trained and will bring their youthful zest as well as a fresh approach in tacking the job.
While the revamping of you existing corporate culture may require some time and effort, it is quite worthwhile to start right now, so that in a year from now you have positioned yourself to chase after the millennial you need to inject the life in your business.
