Easy Windows Vista Weekly Cleaning Tips

Everywhere all around the world, people start to stare at the clock at 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon. Time seems to crawl and you can’t wait for a relaxing weekend. Do you want to speed up the time a bit? Well get busy then. It’s time for weekly Windows Vista cleaning session. You can do this any day in a week, but Friday is a good day for any office cleaning activities.

Do these steps for a weekly Windows cleaning activity:

  1. Clean Temporary Files. Temporary files are usually leftovers of your work, for example unneeded backup files of your word processing works. They may take gigabytes of valuable hard disk space and do nothing to improve your work productivity. Just choose Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Cleanup.
  2. Create Backups. Backup is the cheapest insurance. In the old days, when files were smalls, floppy disks were used for backups. You can use a CD-R to store data up to 700 Mb. But it is generally cheaper to use a DVD-R, which can store 4.5 Gb of data. If your files are not too big, you can put them into a folder and give the folder a name like “Week III, December 2008” and burn the data to a DVD-R, you can use the DVD disc again next week for another backup.
  3. Clean up the root directory. Root directory is a real estate in file storage hierarchy. You can locate root directory in C:\ at drive C or D:\ at Drive D, so on. You should put important files in subfolders instead of root directories. Cluttered root directory may disorganize your work and slow down your Operating System. Move files important for your work into subfolders.
